Why I Love the Moon

I waxed for the sight of a crescent moon;
Like the light smile of a bright idea.
Yet, this moment falls quick and much too soon,
And light floods the depths of dark maria.
Fold back over to this shared arena,
Then wrestle against this opened gibbous
And broken sanity at full luna.
Soon this too will fleet and dark resurface.
For it’s in the night I found it’s purpose:
What you cannot see is the moon’s secret
Those bright highlands are just a blank canvas
And the shadow is the painted credit
Because in this dark is the earth sheltered
Containing you, me, and us together.
