Prevailing Winds

I watch the sun rise
While you sleep in the past
To draw days a bit sooner
And feel nearer to you

I stand in prevailing winds
That swept Appalachia
And over the ocean
That carries your breath to mine

I look up at the moon
when the sun is with you
And see the cast of the earth
Containing the shadow of us

I sleep near the western wall
At the edge of the bed
Though a thousand miles away
To lay closer to you

And I rest in the Irish mountains
That once shared the same range
Before the passage of time
And I keep loving you
